Melissa Eggertsen

Meet Melissa:

I enjoy working with men and women, 13+, going through difficult life transitions, including chronic illness, adapting to new abilities, aging, loss and grief, faith deconstruction, and relationship changes. I help my clients find themselves and reconnect with purpose through gentle, client-focused, values-based psychotherapy (and usually includes some laughter). In our work together, I'll bring deep empathy, thoughtful listening, and a grounding presence that lets you be heard and seen. You won't be rushed or judged with me.I am a therapist in training working towards my clinical mental health counselor Degree.

My therapy style is informed by:
  • Existential and person-centered therapy techniques to explore identity, purpose, and grief
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and DBT-based skills to help you manage emotional overwhelm, anxiety, depression, and distress.
  • Mindfulness interventions to help you learn to listen to and trust your body again
My clients are often:
  • Living with chronic illness (newly diagnosed or long-term)
  • Navigating grief, including the loss of an individual, loss of health, or loss of a relationship
  • Processing depression or anxiety that feels heavy and isolating
  • Struggling with shame and low self-esteem
What Clients Say

Clients have described therapy with me as warm, insightful, and empowering. After a few sessions, they often report:

  • Feeling less alone
  • Being able to name and express their emotions more clearly
  • Having more capacity to make decisions and create change
  • Improvement in their relationships
  • Feeling more peace with themselves and their lives
Why This Work Matters to Me

I came to this work after my own diagnosis of multiple sclerosis and a life-changing experience in my own therapy. I know what it's like to question everything-your future, your body, your relationships, your place in the world. I also know how powerful it can be to sit across from someone who truly sees you and helps you see yourself with new eyes.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do you work with people who have chronic illness?

Yes. I enjoy supporting individuals living with MS and other chronic conditions who feel lost, frustrated, or emotionally overwhelmed.

2. What if I'm not sure therapy will help?

You don't have to be sure. If therapy isn't the right fit, or I'm not the right therapist for you, I am happy to work with you to find someone or something who is.

Absolutely. Divorce brings grief, identity shifts, and lots of emotions that don't fit into clean categories. I've been there, and I'll meet you where you are.
