Our Story

Therapy for Real Life

Life doesn’t happen in perfect conditions.

It doesn’t wait until your schedule is clear. It doesn’t pause while you’re grieving, healing from trauma, navigating a divorce, raising children, caring for aging parents, or trying to keep your head above water.

Yet for years, therapy often asked people to fit into a model instead of asking how therapy could fit into their lives.

Mindful Connections Therapy was created to change that.

In February 2020, our founder, Victoria Thompson, LCSW, began building what she believed mental health care could become—a counseling practice designed around real people living real lives.

Long before virtual therapy became mainstream, Victoria envisioned a practice that could remove barriers to care by meeting clients where they were. Sometimes that meant online therapy. Sometimes it meant flexible scheduling. Sometimes it meant finding creative solutions when finances made getting help difficult.

Because healing doesn’t always happen between 3:00 and 4:00 every Tuesday.

Sometimes healing has to fit around soccer games, work shifts, custody schedules, chronic illness, military deployments, college classes, or the countless unexpected turns life takes.

Then something no one expected happened.

Only weeks after beginning the journey of opening Mindful Connections Therapy, the world shut down.

COVID-19 changed everything.

Suddenly, the virtual therapy model that once seemed unconventional became the standard across the profession. What had started as a unique vision quickly became everyone’s necessity.

But while the delivery of therapy changed for many practices, our mission never did.

Mindful Connections was never about being an online therapy office.

It was about creating therapy for real life.

That philosophy continues to guide every decision we make today.

More Than a Name

People often tell us they love the name Mindful Connections, but to us, it’s much more than a name.

It represents the two principles our practice was built upon.

Mindfulness means slowing down enough to truly notice ourselves and those around us with compassion instead of judgment. It means being present in moments that are often painful, confusing, or overwhelming.

Connection is where healing begins.

Research consistently shows that one of the strongest predictors of successful therapy isn’t a specific technique—it’s the relationship between therapist and client.

People heal when they feel safe.

When they feel understood.

When someone sits beside them instead of trying to fix them.

Connection changes people.

That belief is woven into everything we do.

Growing Without Losing Our Heart

Mindful Connections began as what Victoria affectionately calls a “baby practice.”

It was simply a handful of therapists who believed people deserved care that felt personal, compassionate, and authentic.

From virtual sessions around kitchen tables…

To one small counseling office…

To expanding into a five-office clinic in 2025…

And then into our ten-office practice in 2026…

Every season of growth has been fueled by one thing:

People telling other people they finally found a place where they felt seen.

Today, our team includes therapists with a wide range of specialties serving children, teens, adults, couples, and families throughout Clinton, Syracuse, Clearfield, Roy, Layton, Ogden, Weber County, Davis County, and across Utah through online therapy.

Although we’ve grown, our heart has remained exactly the same.

Therapy That Fits Your Life

We don’t believe every client should receive the exact same therapy.

Because every story is different.

Some clients need trauma therapy.

Some need EMDR.

Some need play therapy.

Some need DBT skills.

Some need faith-informed counseling.

Some need the opposite - non religious counseling or faith transitioning

Some need someone who simply refuses to give up on them.

Our therapists are encouraged to see the whole person—not just a diagnosis.

We believe healing happens when treatment is personalized, relationships are genuine, and people are met with curiosity instead of judgment.

You don’t have to fit into someone else’s definition of what healing should look like.

We’ll meet you where you are.

We’ll walk beside you.

And together, we’ll build a path forward that fits your life.

Because that’s what we’ve believed since the very beginning.
